Maroua-Kodek: Eneo Cameroon builds bridges to protect children’s future
.

Beyond this mere construction project, today we are offering a breath of hope. We are protecting lives, reconnecting communities, keeping children safe and reassuring families,’ said Oumarou Hamandjoda, Deputy General Manager in charge of Corporate Development.

Children are now safer. A sentence taken from the Deputy General Manager’s speech that makes sense and resonates strongly with the residents of KODEK canton. The year is 2023. On that day, two young boys were returning from school like many other pupils in the Hardeo and Ouro Maïna neighbourhoods. They had to cross a stream that was characterised by sudden and violent floods can take even adults by surprise. That evening, the current was too strong. Their frail bodies could not withstand it. Two lives were lost. Two families torn apart. A community plunged into unspeakable shock. We were deeply moved by this tragedy. “Electricity is important, but protecting life is even more essential,” said our Deputy General Manager during the bridge handover ceremony held on Tuesday, 2 December 2025.

Three footbridges have been officially handed over to the communities of HARDEO-KODEK and DJARENGOL-KODEK. The project cost CFA F 47 million.

These infrastructures have restored safety, facilitated access to markets, ensured continuity of schooling for children, enabled mobility throughout the year and finally freed daily life from the fear of flooding. Amina, 11, is a pupil at Hardeo. “Before, every time it rained, I was afraid to go home. We would wait a long time, and sometimes the water would rise. Now I walk across the bridge and feel safe. This gesture by Eneo will allow us to continue our studies with peace of mind and work hard in school,” she said.
