Working together for the common good to combat electricity fraud

.

Firmly committed to the fight against non-technical losses and the improvement of the service quality, Eneo Cameroon is rolling out a vast campaign for the inspection of installations across the country. The main objective of this operation is to secure the electricity network and to control customer installations in accordance with Article 13 of the Regulations of the Public Electricity Distribution Service in Cameroon.

It is noteworthy that about 30% of the energy distributed is lost to non-conventional networks and fraudulent practices. This figure represents an estimated loss of 60 billion FCFA per year. The electricity sector is thus deprived of money that should be used for investments to improve service quality. These irregularities put people and property at risk, affect the electricity network and degrade the quality of energy.

The fight against the illegal use of electricity is in the interest of the public. Eneo Cameroon is keen to see everyone involved. When an inspection team comes to your house, please collaborate with them to facilitate the operation.

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that dishonest individuals, who do not have any links with Eneo, very often take advantage of inspection campaigns like this one to deceive less informed customers.  To protect yourself from a possible scam or any other mischief, be sure to do the right thing:

  • Identify the individual(s) (Eneo staff or subcontractors) with a badge and an ID card, a service or mission order duly signed and sealed by an Eneo manager.
  • Under no circumstances should you give money to third parties! All financial transactions are carried out at Eneo cash desks or at approved partners against receipts.
  • In the event of a dispute, use the legal procedures provided for in the Regulations of the Public Electricity Distribution Service in Cameroon (referral to Eneo or ARSEL)
  • Do not hesitate to report any abuse or unethical behaviour.

Customers who have been scammed by individuals claiming to be Eneo staff or subcontractors are requested to report to the Eneo Regional Office in their Region or anonymously and confidentially to the number 698 280 000.

Eneo Cameroon is urging consumers of electricity who are involved in fraudulent practices to voluntarily report to their agencies and have their installations normalised in order to avoid complications that could even result in legal proceedings.
